Black Beauty [Primary Bedroom] Introduction
My inspiration for this portfolio design- black and white couples boudoir photography 🖤 A sexy and sophisticated luxury BDSM bedroom for them to explore and enjoy their lifestyle in luxurious comfort.
A vacation home designed to be a romantic couples getaway reminding them of their favourite adults only resort. Where they can step into a world that’s all their own, to be fully present with their partner! Away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The overflowing inbox, phone calls, and meetings. Trading in the smell of fumes for fresh Muskoka air. The peace and quiet of wind whispering through the pines, birds chirping and water lapping at the shore. Where they can put down their devices and indulge in coitus without interruptus.
One of the least used colours for a whole room is black...but as it is my favourite I couldn’t help myself! I assure you that going “outside the box” is totally okay and something I highly encourage! So strap on or strap in, and get ready to go on this adventure with me 💀
I’m a sucker for a good love story and getting to know my clients is a large part of what I do. When they feel safe and comfortable to share intimate details of their life it allows me to create highly personalized designs that represent their relationship and journey.
ABOUT THE COUPLE
Rayden is the Chief Creative Officer of her lingerie company
Dante is a hotelier with multiple properties and luxury resorts
Rayden reached out to me when she and her husband Dante were planning their Muskoka cottage. They are building this second home for the two of them and not for entertaining guests. Where it has all the amenities of a hotel stay but completely private. They will hire a house manager to keep the household running effectively and efficiently. They will also manage staff such as a chef and housekeeper when they are in residence or when they are away. Of course they could travel and spend their vacations at one of Dante’s resorts but they are of course known there and it would feel like work instead of time away from it.
THEIR DESIRES FOR THE ROOM
~ A super comfy bed for sex and sleep
~ A seating area to chillax
~ They want it to be black
~ Room darkening drapery
~ A private outdoor space
~ A fireplace, bar fridge, and coffee maker
~ Softer lighting as Rayden is light sensitive
~ Hard point on the headboard for restraint
~ Toy storage and a place to charge them
~ Open space for play
~ Sometimes Dante shares Rayden with another Dominant of his choosing and likes to watch or for them both to pleasure her

This information is what forms my design direction. So it's really important that clients feel seen, heard and understood without judgment. For them to trust me enough to be vulnerable and open to discussing sexual pleasure in the comfort and beauty of their home.
BECAUSE NO CLIENT, LOVE STORY OR DESIRES ARE THE SAME THERE IS RESEARCH INVOLVED WITH EVERY PROJECT
Moving forward with knowing the feeling of the room I take all of their ideas, wants and must-haves and figure out how all of this can translate into a room design, so here we go. These are just a few of the questions I asked myself before starting my research:
Why is vacation sex so hot?
What makes a bed super comfy?
Understand more about her light sensitivity?
How will Rayden and Dante move through the room?
How will the space appeal to their senses?
How do I incorporate multiple partner play?
Where and how will I create storage and charging for their toy collection?
What BDSM furniture should I include, where will it be stored?
How tall are they?
How will my design give them a sense of a luxury resort vacation?
How will I add soft/diffused lighting requested by Rayden?
Where will I create the seating/bar fridge/fireplace area?
RESEARCH, RESEARCH AND MORE RESEARCH
So the biggest question for me during my research was why is vacation sex so hot as this is why they are building this cottage.

Separated from stressors that can activate the fight or flight response
The hotel room is very tidy, the bed is beautifully made, the sheets feel good
You can chill the fuck out
Hot tub, jacuzzi, beach
You feel sexier in bathing suits or lingerie
You can take your time, no need to rush
Meals are made for you and someone else cleans up
Not thinking about work or upcoming meetings
Great sleep
You’re completely focused on each other
Vacation is about play and having fun
HOW I INCORPORATED THEIR MUST-HAVES FOR AN EROTIC SPACE
Taking their ideas- only better. I created a wet bar and coffee station behind hidden panels. And for the bar fridge I specified fridge and freezer drawers instead. A wonderful way to start and end the day. You never need to leave your room. Especially if the chef will be preparing delicious meals that can be enjoyed on the outdoor balcony.
The seating area in this space was really important to experience comfort whether you are sitting alone, have company on your lap or resting by your feet.
Sometimes it's just as important as what goes into a room as what doesn't. Wondering what I mean by this? A footboard, chaise or upholstered bench are often included in such a large bedroom. In this case they would be in the way of how the end of the bed and open area would be used for restraints or a spanking bench so they weren't included. Because this room is for rest, relaxation and play they didn’t want sex furniture in the room full time but close at hand in the walk-in closet. Part of the excitement is not knowing what Dante will bring in with him from the closet. Their personal assistants know to only contact them with emergency phone calls only. Making that clear boundary was so important for them to be away from work and leave their tech devices aside.
A warm and cozy fireplace in the bedroom, yes please! Enough said, lol.
You may be wondering in a bedroom this fabulous where the ensuite and walk-in closet are? They are HIDDEN!!! You can never have too many hidden doors, stay tuned 😈

TELLING THEIR LOVE STORY IN VISUAL FORM
The custom fabric and wood headboard is covered with tufted velvet and leather buttons with a ring pull installed for play or sleeping. The metal is recessed into the fabric so no one is scratched by the edges and the velvet is super soft to the touch- duplicating the chair material.
Playing with textures and sheen the walls and ceiling are matte with the trim and doors in a semi-gloss finish.
The lingerie she loves to wear is her power colour…you guessed it BLACK! Dante loves Rayden in black lingerie knowing she feels her most powerful and chooses to submit to him. She selects designs from her line that show off her tattoo body art. He also loves to see her in action at work being a total badass and going after what she wants and her kneeling with her head resting on his lap. Both turn him on!
A room of importance for the erotic art to be displayed! Not wanting glare on glass from the lights above or windows across the room- having them printed on canvas and recessed into a thin black metal frame gives them the appearance of floating. For Rayden to get into her feminine energy after being in her masculine all day she LOVES to spend time in the bathtub (the ensuite is an upcoming design).

Black Beauty [Primary Bedroom]- The Room Reveal
Remember their wants, needs and desires from above- well this is where the magic happens. The details that blow clients away. It's the little things that make the design special and unique. The surprises they weren't expecting!
The nightstands have interior outlets and USB for charging sex toys and drawers for bondage gear storage! A larger collection is stored in the walk-in closet. Shout out to the team at Sinvention Boutique for their selection of premium adult toys and sexy in-house custom made fetish leathers.
Light control from the comfort of the bed is achieved by having black switches installed beside the headboard, on dimmers (which is a must for all rooms). The Clapper is no longer required, which makes me wonder if spankings would have turned the lights on and off back in the day???
A gorgeous large scale chandelier is a main focal point of this room highlighting the ceiling detail. The pot lights are half covered to wash the walls so no light is directly shining down right into your eyes. One of my biggest pet peeves!
Specification of upgraded windows and doors that reduce outdoor noise just like we did for the interior doors. What’s the point of doing one and not the other! The wall to wall black sheers filter the light for Rayden’s light sensitivity and offer some privacy while still being able to see the pretty view. The second layer of room darkening black velvet drapes block the light, reduce noise, and provide full privacy. The drapery controls have been hardwired into the room with placement beside the bed, the entrance, and the exterior French doors. You never know where the mood will strike.
To reduce noise and light pollution from the hallway the entrance doors are solid wood complete with weather-stripping and a door sweep. And of course the French doors feature mouldings duplicating the walls- any chance to use custom mouldings I can’t resist.
The chairs are covered in luxurious black velvet with nailhead detail and swivel to face the fireplace, the magical outdoor scenery, and the bed. With so many options it will be difficult to choose which view to watch! P.S. The nailhead detail is on the sides and back of the chair so it doesn’t feel cold or hard on your arms. #attentiontodetail
For a little glitz and glam beside the antique mirror (which tilts down for added viewing pleasure) I included wall sconces that coordinate with the chandelier on dimmers for another layer of soft lighting. A TV was not hung above the fireplace keeping distractions out of the bedroom and to preserve the sensual feel of the space but a sound system with integrated ceiling speakers helps to set the mood during play or rest.
Hidden doors to his and hers ensuite keep the room flowing and doesn't distract the eye. Plus hidden doors are the coolest and it’s fun to be in on the secret!
SURPRISE! More hidden doors ;)
A hidden coffee bar complete with refrigerator/freezer drawers below that includes an ice maker. A great way to relax before starting the day without ever having to leave the comfort of the bedroom or sipping tea in front of the fire while wrapped in a blanket reading a book on a cold rainy day.
A hidden wet bar for an evening beverage (this is where the ice maker comes in handy) to wind down after a long day, or to enjoy a glass of wine with dinner out on the balcony. Creating a luxury resort in your own home, um yes please!
Who would say no to a private balcony for the pure pleasure of cuddling up together to watch sunsets while dining, thunderstorms rolling in on the outdoor sofa, and making love under moonlit nights in the hot tub? Not this girl!
Ceilings are often forgotten about during the planning stage but there is so much potential to elevate the room design. With the use of mouldings, staggered heights, layered lighting and an amazing installer who LOVES detailed work- you won’t want to stop admiring your gorgeous ceiling.

It's All In The Details
This room is a great example of why you would hire WWD before finalizing any new construction or renovation plans. Design selections made pre-construction allows us to include the hidden doors to the closet and ensuite, specialty windows and doors, second storey private balcony, hot tub, fireplace and the wet bar/coffee station. It's all in the details is a saying often associated with the interior design industry and it's very true. These features are not something they would have thought of but totally change the whole design and function of the space! This is why you hire a professional.
