Smoke & Mirrors [BDSM Dungeon] Introduction
This portfolio design was inspired by a friend with a Dom/sub relationship in mind- A sadist found his masochist 🖤 A sexy and sophisticated dungeon for them to explore and enjoy their BDSM lifestyle in luxurious comfort. A seductive backdrop to indulge in pleasure and play. I love giving all my designs a title: Smoke & Mirrors= S & M = Sadist & Masochist, see what I did there ;)
I’m a sucker for a good love story and getting to know my clients and very intimate details of their life is a large part of what I do. When they feel safe and comfortable it allows me to create highly personalized designs that represent their relationship and journey.
ABOUT THE COUPLE
Titles given to each other at the collaring ceremony:
Damian: Greek- To tame
Aster: Greek- Star
Damian is the CEO of his sex toy company
Aster is an artist with her paintings in galleries across the country
Aster moved in with Damian and they split their time between the primary residence on the edge of Toronto and the penthouse downtown. A dedicated BDSM playroom in their primary residence is what they are looking for and where I come in!
THEIR DESIRES FOR THE ROOM

This information is what forms my design direction. So it's really important that clients feel seen, heard and understood without judgment. For them to trust me enough to be vulnerable and open to discussing sexual pleasure in the comfort and beauty of their home.
[Smoke & Mirrors] Design Vision
Little Red Riding Hood meets the Big Bad Wolf- creates the dangerous and sexy atmosphere of the BDSM Dungeon. Red is the colour of passion, desire and love. Black is the colour of mystery, power and elegance. A bold statement that elicits the strongest visceral reaction. To enter is to submit. This is his domain where he is the master of her mind and body. His control is intoxicating to her senses. Her keeper, her protector, her dark knight.
The Mood Board
When clients hire an interior decorator there is always a deeper meaning. In this case: A New Beginning. They want this erotic space to represent their new life together. To make peace with the past and move forward into their future.
AN EXCLUSIVE MEMBERS ONLY SEX CLUB IS WHERE THEIR LOVE STORY BEGAN
He first saw her on her tour of the club with the owner (and his friend). They were introduced that evening. His body unexpectedly jolted when they shook hands. Her gasp at their touch wasn’t missed by him. He couldn’t stop thinking about her beauty and grace, which hadn’t happened since losing his long-time submissive three years ago. Returning the next week in hopes of seeing her again his friend informed him that she had requested a flogging session and thought he was the perfect man for her first time.
She had fantasies and urges for years but this wasn’t something she could explore with her now ex-husband but decided that she was ready. Confident the club owner would find her a skilled man to take her through her first flogging- the anticipation was too much.
Their instant connection translated into the session as well. Damian was so intune with her mood and body. To calm her nerves, to excite her mind, and to give her pleasure. It was so much more than she could’ve imagined. Clearly the flogging went well and here we are, le swoon.
The mood board is one way I communicate with my clients. Damian and Aster reached out to me because they were struggling to come up with ideas for the dungeon they wanted. Having a few ideas from the club and the sex furniture they like to use but struggled with how to translate that to their home. Enter Me! I took what they love about playing at the club and incorporated it into the room with a few little personalized surprises for them both. Adding these extra details is what makes each design special for each client. No design is the same because no couple is the same.
The mood board helps clients to get a feel for the room and the direction I’m taking it. Knowing from our conversations that they wanted a colour palette of red and black.
Client Must-Haves For An Erotic Space
Oh hello there sexy dungeon! The space plan is the jumping off point for every project. As this is a private locked room dedicated to BDSM play there was no reason to disguise or hide anything and would bring them pleasure to see the toys and furniture on display. They still visit the club on occasion but having a space all their own where they can have fun just the two of them is extra special.
BECAUSE NO CLIENT, LOVE STORY OR DESIRES ARE THE SAME THERE IS RESEARCH INVOLVED WITH EVERY PROJECT
Moving forward with knowing the feeling of the room I take all of their ideas, wants and must-haves and figure out how all of this can translate into a room design, so here we go. These are just a few of the questions I asked myself before starting my research:
How will Damian and Aster move through the room?
How large does the space need to be for all activities they enjoy at the club?
Where and how will toys and ropes be stored/displayed?
How will the space appeal to their senses?
How do I incorporate mirrors and a fog machine?
Where and how will I create storage and display for Damian’s wine collection?
How do I create a star feature in the room for Damian to surprise Aster?
What BDSM furniture should I include?
How tall are they?
How will my design give them a sense of a new beginning?
How will I add low lighting/candlelight requested by Aster?
Where will I include a cage for pet play?
Where will they spend time for aftercare?
Knowing it’s a very important part of their scene ritual, where will the designated area for Aster’s inspection be?
RESEARCH, RESEARCH AND MORE RESEARCH
Diving into research for this portfolio design I took the list of furniture pieces they enjoy using at the club and looked into my suppliers to figure out furniture scale to get an idea of the room size. I’m not a wine connoisseur like Damian so after chatting about how he stores his current collection I was able to look into chilled and room temperature storage solutions. Then the next thing is where will they enjoy a glass of wine together. Thinking about seating areas I immediately thought of a bar area and sofas or chairs…but I don’t want the sofa back to be in the way visually. (See below for how I resolve this).
HOW I INCORPORATED THEIR MUST-HAVES FOR AN EROTIC SPACE
Aster's comfort is priority number one for Damian so that was taken into consideration for every decision I made. A space dedicated in the room for their inspection ritual at the beginning of each scene- I created a separate entrance area for Damian to inspect Aster. This is also where I incorporated the star design element that Damian requested as a surprise!
Multiple areas for play were achieved by including a customized king size bed frame for bondage play. A spanking bench to one side of the bed and a Tantra Chair on the other side complete the BDSM furniture selection. Toy and rope storage was a mixture of hidden storage in the armoire/bedside chests and visible hooks. A few mirrors and a fog machine…I might have gone a little overboard and used 8 wall mirrors plus the two over the bed, lol. The fog machine helps to change the mood of the room into a primal hunter after his prey. Ceiling speakers to play music during a scene keeps them out of the way. Display and storage for his extensive wine collection was accommodated by adding chilled wine storage units and room temperature boxes in the bar area.
Easy to clean surfaces requested by Aster was achieved by selecting the correct materials and fabrics with washable ratings. Soft furnishings include the sofa, ottoman, and bar stools instead of wood and metal. A cozy pet bed and blanket fit for a good kitty were placed in the cage area. Where is the cage you may ask?? Stay tuned. Really low lighting that creates shadows using candles were installed throughout the room with minimal recessed lighting. They both requested to include erotic couples photography of themselves as art somewhere in the room so above the armoire it shall be hung.

TELLING THEIR LOVE STORY IN VISUAL FORM
This room and all its design elements' purpose was to elicit a strong visceral reaction of excitement, a hint of danger, increased heart rate, anticipation, and heightened arousal.
The first thing I selected was this gorgeous handcrafted black metal and glass lighting sculpture chandelier. At 5’ high and 4’ wide it is a true feature of this room. I may have requested the ceiling be higher in this room to accommodate this fixture, lol. Not even kidding!!! Another reason to work with me BEFORE the house plans are finalized with the architect and builder.
You know sourcing lighting is one of my top favourites, so you could imagine my excitement when I found the pendants that will hang over the bar…get this, the collection is named Tied Up Romance. I can’t even 🥰
Que the sexy furniture- The Spanking Bench, Tantra Chair and Deluxe Bed Frame give the couple multiple areas for hours of fun! Not shown is the custom red velvet sofa, so good. With so many options, where will they play first???
LION: majesty, strength, courage, justice. The KING of the beasts.
The symbolism of the lion holds special meaning so I wanted to include it somewhere. The door knocker isn’t going on the door. What?! Intrigued where they will be incorporated in the room??? Keep reading ;)
R is the family crest so I included it as custom door hardware on these totally awesome doors.
While Aster is preparing her body as per Damain’s instructions he is getting the room ready to welcome her for their scene. Bringing the room to desired temperature- warmer or cooler. Lighting the beeswax candles. Dimming the wall scones, chandelier, star feature and recessed lights. Setting the music at the correct volume so he can still hear her knock on the door. Organizing and carefully displaying any toys or bondage gear he wants her to see when she enters the main area. For her to know and feel that kind of love, his love.
Have you ever put this much thought into a room? Well I do, all the time!!!

Smoke & Mirrors [BDSM Dungeon]- The Room Reveal
Welcome to the Dungeon, a BDSM playroom designed for pleasure and pain!
Remember their wants, needs and desires from above- well this is where the magic happens. The details that blow clients away. It's the little things that make the design special and unique. The surprises they weren't expecting and are so thankful I added them.
Initial reactions from my sneak peekers included wet panties, jaws dropping, visions of a Gotham Villians movie set dancing through their heads and a Holy Fuck!!! So I’m thinking this design is HOT, HOT, HOT. Just how I planned it (check mark).
The king size Deluxe Bed Frame was customized adding a frame extension with a fixed mirror above the bed and a rotating mirror above the extension. Look closely under the bed (wink) They requested a cage somewhere in the room for pet play and under the bed I placed it. This space saving idea is usually reserved for drawers of clothing or extra bedding was utilized for a good kitty instead. Complete with a comfy cozy pet bed and blankie for when it’s time to sleep or relax as Damian sees fit. This left room for a spanking bench and a Tantra Chair to add to their BDSM furniture collection. Thank you Master R’s Dungeon Equipment (heart).
The diamond pattern metal detail on the ceiling is duplicated on a smaller scale on the armoire. And can we just take a moment to take in the grandness of the swagged red velvet ceiling above the sofa highlighted by this totally badass chandelier. Totally worth building this ceiling area higher!!!
The nightstands act as storage and to display bondage gear in this beautiful red finish. Only roses were placed on top to keep a clutter free area and may be woven into the rope bondage.
What is that hanging from the extension you ask? As the primary location for flogging Aster chains were secured to the extension and cuffs from Sinvention Boutique.
A sunken round sofa is of course the obvious answer to solving the problem of the sofa back height being in the way. I’m raising the roof and tearing up the floor, lol. While sitting on the sofa it gives you a view of the whole room but also doesn’t obstruct the view while sitting at the bar or from the bed. This gives Damian line of sight of Aster no matter where he has displayed her for his viewing pleasure.
The star surprise for Aster I sourced a lighting feature that can be lit up to look like stars in the night sky or turned off. To Damian it meant a lot to honour her and her submission. So what a better place than where they enter and begin each scene. For Aster to enter she must knock, Damian will slide the door window panel open to reveal her face with her eyes lowered in a respectful angle. He then chooses when she is allowed in and opens the door for her with instructions to stop in the middle of the space. There are mirrors on both sides of the room for Damian to gaze on her body as well as her reflections for areas he can’t directly view. These awesome old world looking doors with the custom family crest door hardware make it even more amazing!
The drapery allows for a more intimate feeling in the space but doesn’t totally close it off either. With the curtains swept open they have a view of the armoire and their erotic boudoir art or with the curtains closed the room feels more intimate. And for this reason I didn’t want a second set of doors making the room closed off. The space is lit with a few pot lights and 4 wall sconces with black satin shades to help diffuse the light and hide the bulb.
The soft glow provided by the black candle sconces gives the mystery and sensuality we were going for and a request from Aster. With so many lit I didn’t want anything heavily perfumed or harmful so I went with black beeswax candles from Lady Green Inc.
Damian’s extensive wine collection required chilled and room temperature storage with somewhere to relax and enjoy a glass or two with Aster. With no sunlight coming into this room that instantly removed some of the storage concerns. The upper LED display (which won’t harm the content of the wine) is a collection of vintage bottles that he purchased from auction over the years only sharing on special occasions. The wine coolers on the far left and right feature separate temperature zones to store whites and reds. Custom door panels were made to integrate the coolers with the surrounding cabinetry. Below the bar mirror is more open storage for wine bottles that are easily accessible. Refrigerated and freezer drawers for snacks and nonalcoholic beverages complete this wine bar.
Here are the Tied Up Romance pendants in all their glory!!! The leather straps and hand blown glass definitely add to the sexiness of this dungeon.
I didn’t include area rugs as they could be a tripping hazard for the couple and harder to keep clean. So with that in mind I selected leather tile flooring to be installed over heated concrete which will help to keep Aster’s feet toasty warm and easy to clean up. The colour name is Modena Wine (wink) sometimes things are meant to be.
With this many oversized mirrors in the inspection area and the main room you’re not missing any of the action. To celebrate their bodies and how they experience pleasure. There is no reason to be shy or feel shame in this space.
The red velvet on the sofa and bar stools is so soft against your skin and feels ultra luxurious you won’t want to get up. And you may not be able to because this is where the lion comes into the design. I adorned the bar stools with the lion door knockers. Used on the back of the barstools they are not only gorgeous they will also double as a restraint point. You can never have enough!!!
This HOT AF artwork is by erotica + boudoir photographer Aroha from The Boudoir Lounge. The armoire (like grandma's candy cabinet but way better) was outfitted with a leather and gold diamond pattern on the inset door panels- that duplicate the ceiling detail on a smaller scale. This furniture piece holds their selection of toys, collars, leashes, floggers and lots and lots of rope. You can never have too much rope, can you? On either side are hooks to display rope, floggers or paddles. They wanted to be able to see a few items but didn’t want the space to look cluttered.
You may be wondering where the fireplace is as you know my love of fireplaces is strong??? But alas my designs are for the clients and a fireplace wasn’t important to them in this space. But I did include wallpaper! And it’s flocked!!! Before you get worried about the wallpaper setting on fire I have already thought of this and used anti-reflective glass to protect it.
Aftercare for this couple where they can see to each other's physical and emotional needs can be on the bed or sofa, both comfortable areas for snuggles! There are socks and blankets stored in the armoire for Aster as she gets cold after an intense scene.

It's All In The Details
This room is a great example of why you would hire WWD before finalizing any new construction or renovation plans. Design selections made pre-construction allows us to include the higher velvet swag ceiling, oversized chandelier and mirrors, a professional quality fog machine for those extra primal take-downs, in-floor heat, and a sunken sofa. It's all in the details is a saying often associated with the interior design industry and it's very true. These features are not something they would have thought of but totally change the whole design and function of the space! This is why you hire a professional.
