How I Prep for the Initial Client Meeting: Bringing My A-Game Like a Total Badass

Updated: Aug 25

When it comes to designing intimate interiors that inspire and ignite, the initial client meeting is everything. It's where we lay the foundation for the magic that’s about to happen. But before I even step out the door, there are nine essential steps I take to ensure I’m ready to rock this meeting like the creative powerhouse I am.

When planning this post, I couldn’t help but think about how nerve-racking that first in-person meeting can be. Up until now, we’ve only connected through emails, phone calls, and Zoom. So, to put your mind at ease for one of the most important conversations we’ll have, I’m giving you a peek behind the scenes at how I prep for our meeting. I’ll follow this up with two more posts—one on how you can prepare and another on what to expect during our time together!

1. Email Lifestyle Questionnaire

This is where I start getting into your heads—don’t worry, it’s a good thing. I send you a detailed questionnaire that I need back 30 days before our meeting. It’s extensive because I want to know all about you in a short amount of time. Trust me, this is where the magic begins.

2. Architectural Plan Review

If you’ve already started on the architectural plans, I’ll review them before they’re finalized. This is where I jot down those little tweaks that take your design from “nice” to “jaw-droppingly fabulous.” It’s like you planned it, only better.

3. Meet The Builder

Whether you’re bringing your own build team or picking from my exclusive black book, this meeting is where the fun begins. Think of it as a brainstorming session—only kinkier. 😈

4. Book Accommodations

Depending on the location, an overnight stay might be necessary. Travel can be exhausting, and I need to be at the top of my game when we finally meet in person. Beauty rest is real, darling.

5. Schedule Chaperone

A trusted and valued member of the team, my chaperone accompanies me to all client meetings, so you will see them a few times throughout the design process.

6. Plan Meeting Location

Whether we meet at your home or the builder’s conference room, it’s all good with me. If you’re building in Ontario but live elsewhere, we’ll find a comfy spot to get together. And don’t worry about snacks—I believe in keeping the creative juices flowing, so expect a spread of tasty treats and refreshing drinks.

7. Prep Colour Booklets

Colour psychology is my jam, and these booklets are the tools I use to dive deep into your personal tastes. You each fill one out, and I refer back to them constantly during the design concept phase. Let’s make sure your space feels as good as it looks.

8. Review + Research Questionnaire

At this point, I’ve gathered a treasure trove of knowledge about you—from your daily routines to your favorite indulgences. This insight is invaluable for crafting a design that's uniquely tailored to you. Get ready for some truly personalized touches!

9. Combine All Ideas

Finally, I take all those sparks of inspiration and chaotic scribbles and organize them into something coherent. This is the blueprint for our conversation—a roadmap to creating a space that’s distinctly yours.

Now, about that outfit—imagine a little Moira Rose meets Wednesday Addams. I’m talking black spiderweb tights, dramatic flair, and just the right amount of edge. Because when it comes to design (and fashion), I’m here to make a statement..

You're Confident In Your Sex Life. Now, Be Confident In Your Home!

Your home plays a crucial role in setting the mood, and it should be a seamless extension of your lifestyle. Does the idea of explaining your kinks and desires to a designer give you the heebie-jeebies? If only there were someone who specializes in creating intimate interiors for badass soulmates—and is also pretty awesome. Well, have no fear—Jenny is here! Cue Wonder Woman pose 🖤

Working with me allows you to explore and express your relationship in bold, exciting ways you’ve always dreamed of—or didn’t even know were possible! Fill out the design inquiry to see if White Wave Design is the dream come true match for your full-scale renovation or luxury new construction project. My designs celebrate all relationships, from the sweet to the spicy, including kink and BDSM lifestyles.
