Passion For Design

Updated: Aug 13, 2019

February marks another anniversary for White Wave Design!

What do you love the most? What are you passionate about? Welcome to our February passion for design post.

Passion

“ Passion is a feeling of intense enthusiasm towards or compelling desire for someone or something. Passion can range from eager interest in or admiration for an idea, proposal, or cause; to enthusiastic enjoyment of an interest or activity; to strong attraction, excitement, or emotion towards a person. -Wikipedia”

We all have passions- fashion, chocolate, gardening etc. Finding and following your passion whether it is your day job, side gig or hobby is a great goal to have in life. For me it is design, I see it everywhere I go: buildings, art, nature, furniture- everything in our lives is designed. When a new wallpaper book arrives in it’s cardboard box and the excitement of opening it is like Christmas that is when you know you are passionate!

Focus on function and aesthetics

Often when clients think of a new design for their space they only envision how it will look. Great design of course is the visual but how we move in and use a space dictates how well it works for us. Function is always at the top of my mind when creating a new look for a client. How many family members sit at the dining table or in the living room? Where is the main flow of traffic? By listening to what is required for the room to function well, I then can develop a design plan to suit the household and create a beautiful and personalized aesthetic. Incorporating colour, fabrics, furniture and art work is what makes the room feel and look like your vision while not tripping on a poorly placed table or couch.

Personalized spaces

“What is my client passionate about?”

This by far is my favourite part of design...creating personalized spaces you love! When I walk into a home I get a sense of who lives there, without asking any questions (I get to use my detective skills). Travel photography, family photos, lots of colour or lack thereof, the items on display are often what they value most. Helping to create a space that speaks to someone, that they LOVE coming home to after a long day- where they feel cozy, uplifted and surrounded by family, friends and good design is what makes a house a home!

Get Inspired

Finding inspiration can come from anywhere if you are open and aware of your surroundings. Is there something that sparks your interest but never took the time to explore? I am inspired by my clients everyday and why I LOVE what I do. Thank you all for another great year and I look forward to what 2019 has in store for all of us!
