Colour of the Year & Colour Trends 2020

A fresh palette. A revitalized spirit. A soft, rosy hue blooming with potential. Benjamin Moore's Colour of the Year 2020, First Light 2102-70, is the backdrop for a bright new decade.

It's an exiting time of year for us here at White Wave Design as Benjamin Moore has announced their Colour of the Year and Colour Trends 2020! Selecting Colour of the Year is an 18 month process travelling the world, looking at fashion and design trends- therefore a lot of thought and care is taken. Selecting the Colour of the Year for the new decade holds even more meaning!

The trend of COMFORT shows no sign of slowing down, with people spending more time at home with family and entertaining friends. The feeling of home has become the focus for 2020 and beyond. The 10 colours that make up the Colour Trends 2020 palette mix well together and can be paired up to create modern combinations. Pink is not what I was expecting, I was hoping for an emerald green heading into the next decade with a dark and rich colour- a contrast from the lighter colours we have been seeing (my love for dark colours leaves me a little biased). As much as green is an on trend colour which is included in the 2020 palette the pink is also everywhere from fashion to throw pillows and chunky knit blankets creating a fresh and bright take on our current gray.

Thinking of new ways to incorporate colour into you space, you might consider cabinetry traditionally in a white finish. Adding a pop of unexpected colour showcases the finish as well as your personality and design style! The softness of First Light allows it to act as a neutral colour being able to pair it with other neutrals or richer colours like Blue Danube.
